Cult doctrine will only be swallowed if you first establish authority. This is most effectively accomplished by framing your religion around an extant faith instead of creating a new one ex nihilo. Christianity is the easiest religion to expand upon: it’s vague and protean, but more importantly, grounded upon the bogus notion of Absolute Truth. The Bible is "inerrant," its laws "immutable," its god "ineffable," and its spokesperson, Christ, is "perfect." These hermeneutics can be used to establish your own credibility. As an added bonus, the overwhelming majority of Americans are taught the infallibility of the Christian faith since birth and are trained to respond to Christian iconography like Pavlov’s dogs. This can always be exploited by innovative cults. |
